Privacy Policy

Short version: we collect as little as we can get away with. You can use the whole board without an account, and if you do that we never learn who you are.

If you just browse

Nothing is collected. No account, no analytics, no tracking pixels, and no cookies. We don't use an analytics service at all - not Google Analytics, not anything else.

What we collect, and only when you give it

• Your email address- if you create an account, join the waitlist, or claim a venue. That's the only thing an account needs; there's no password.
• Your saved lists- favourites and must-visits. These live on your device. They're copied to your account only if you sign in, so they can follow you to another phone.
• Your display name and the things you're into - only what you type on your profile. Leave them blank and nothing is stored.
• A photo - if you submit a special by photographing a board or flyer.
• Contact details on a venue claim - name, role, email, phone and message, so we can get back to you.

Your location

If you allow it, your location is used to sort venues by how close they are. Normally it is stored on your device only, and forgotten after twelve hours.

There are two exceptions, and they're both things you ask for:

• The concierge.When you ask it to plan a night, your coordinates are sent to our server so it can work out what's near you. Used for that request, not stored.
• Notifications.If you turn them on, we keep your approximate location - rounded to about 100 metres, so it points at a neighbourhood rather than an address - so a notification can be about somewhere you'd actually go. Turn notifications off and it goes with them.

You can refuse location entirely and the app still works - you just pick a suburb instead, and notifications become city-wide rather than local.

Your IP address

Kept briefly to stop abuse - so one machine can't sign up to the waitlist a thousand times, fake a listing's confirmations, or run the concierge all day at our expense. It isn't used to identify you, isn't shown to anyone, and isn't linked to your browsing.

Who else sees it

We don't sell or share your information with advertisers or data brokers. We don't run ads. The only companies involved are the ones needed to make the app work:

• Supabase - stores the database and handles sign-in.
• Vercel - hosts the app.
• Resend - sends your sign-in code and our alert emails.
• Anthropic - powers the concierge. It receives what you typed and a shortlist of venues. It does not receive your email address, your name or your account.

Venue information

The venue directory and the specials on the board come from public sources - venue websites, public listings and Google's business data. That's information about businesses, not about you.

Deleting your data

Email hello@ontonight.com.au and we'll delete your account and everything attached to it. You can also just sign out, which leaves your lists on your device and nowhere else.

Age

On Tonight lists licensed venues and alcohol specials, and is intended for people over 18.

Changes

If we start collecting something new, this page is updated at the same time and the date at the top changes.
